A “sweet and nice” New York City woman was found dead with her hands and feet bound inside her Upper West Side apartment Wednesday evening.
Investigators believe the Dominican native, identified as 74-year-old Maria Hernandez, was slaughtered amid a robbery shortly after she returned home from a Broadway show and dinner with her sister.
“I said 'Goodnight, we'll talk tomorrow,'” the 72-year-old sibling said of the last encounter.
“I'm still in shock, I can't believe [it]. We have no idea. We only hope the police find out as soon as possible.”
Police said that DVR with surveillance footage was removed from the building's basement. The medical examiner's office revealed Saturday that Hernandez was choked to death.
“She was an excellent human being, a wonderful lady,” the sister said. “She's kind, loving, caring. Everything you can imagine a nice person would be.”
