A New York City woman is clinging to life after she was mowed down and stabbed by her estranged husband amid a terrible divorce.
Sophia Giraldo, 41, suffered broken bones, punctured liver and neurological damage following Tuesday’s attack, prosecutors said.
Stephen Giraldo, 36, called 911 saying “I think I killed my wife” after mowing her down in front of their children, who are under 11 years old.
“Everyone, keep your seatbelts on,” the father told his kids before ramming the car into the unsuspecting woman. He then stepped out of the car and stabbed the victim as she lied unconscious in the street.
“The brutality of the attack, and the fact that it was committed in full view of the victim’s three young children, stirs heartbreak and outrage in all of us,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “My thoughts are with the children.”
Sophia, who worked as a life-coach, had previously called herself as a survivor of trauma, betrayal, and abuse.
But Giraldo’s MTA colleagues and brother described him as a nice person.
“They were working through some issues. He was trying to work things out with her. My brother is nothing like that. He’s a gentle, sweet guy,” Jonathan Giraldo said.
