Five law enforcement officers in Louisiana were indicted Thursday over the May 2019 death of a Black motorist who was beaten and assaulted during an arrest.

A Union Parish grand jury ruled that four state troopers and a deputy should face state charges over the death of 49-year-old Ronald Greene.

The officers could be seen in suppressed bodycam footage beating, dragging, and tasering Green on a rural Monroe area road as he yelled “I’m scared!”

Master Trooper Kory York was charged with negligent homicide and 10 counts of malfeasance in office after he was caught dragging the victim face-down by his ankle shackles.

The deadly arrest in Union Parish wrapped up a chase that started in Ouachita Parish.

Bodycam footage of the incident also included incriminating statements made by State Trooper Chris Hollingsworth who was also involved in the assault months before his 2020 death.

“[I] beat the ever-living out of [Greene],” he said. “[Greene] was spitting blood everywhere” before “all of a sudden he just went limp.”
