A New York City woman died on her way to hospital after the ambulance carrying her from a crash scene got involved in yet another accident, Staten Island Police said.
The victim, a 34-year-old woman, was initially hit by a Dodge Charger as she crossed Jewett Avenue in Westerleigh at around 6:15 a.m. Friday
But as she was being transported to the hospital, the ambulance got struck by a Jeep at an intersection and landed on its side.
“The driver was okay. He climbed right out of the ambulance and out the passenger door. Two EMTs in the back were thrown around. They needed assistance getting out,” a witness said.
The victim was later transported by another ambulance to Richmond University Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police said that two EMTs and the Jeep’s driver also sustained injuries but were expected to recover.
