A road-rage incident in Chicago claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy early Saturday when a stray bullet struck him as he sat in the backseat of his mom’s vehicle.
The victim, identified as Mateo Zastro, was killed in a clear “road rage incident” when the passenger of another car, possibly a Dodge Charger or a Ford Mustang, fired at the woman’s car with three children inside.
The suspects’ car kept chasing the woman’s vehicle for at least a mile, with a dozen shots fired, before police intervened.
Mateo died less than eight hours following the shooting. A reward of $7,000 is being offered for information about the gunman.
“I want to offer our deep and profound condolences to the family of this precious 3-year-old child,” Police Commander Brian Spreyne said.
“Our hearts are broken by the senseless act of violence that took this child’s life.”
Community Activist Andrew Holmes, who is offering the reward asked the public to help arrest those responsible.
“If you saw anything, know anything, please give up any information. We need to get these baby killers off the streets.”
