A Tennessee high school football player and his girlfriend were killed in a tragic crash late Thursday.
Austin Moffitt, 18, was behind the wheel of a Jeep when he rolled through a stop sign at State Route 28 and John Burch Road. His girlfriend, 19-year-old Alexis McCann was a passenger.
An oncoming 2019 Freightliner smashed right into the teens’ car killing them. Authorities said that the truck driver was not harmed.
“So heartbreaking to hear the news of the loss of a former player and students of mine,” a former teacher at Sequatchie County High School said.
“Austin Moffitt was such a great young man and player. Alexis was such a sweet girl and a great student. She worked extremely hard. This is such a devastating loss for the community.”
The couple graduated from high school in May.
“They were both young and had so much more life to live!! We will miss you!!!” a family friend wrote on Facebook.
