Employee at Ohio packaging plant dies after getting trapped in hydraulic machine

An employee at an Ohio packaging plant died a tragic death on Thursday after he became trapped in a hydraulic machine, Licking County authorities said.

The victim, identified as Billy Joe Craig, was pronounced dead at the scene by Heath fire officers who rushed to Samuel Packaging after receiving an emergency call about the man entangled in the machine.

  • Police obtained footage of the incident that took place at around 4 a.m. Thursday when the 42-year-old victim attempted to investigate something atop the machine and ended up on the path of a large ram.

    Two other employees pressed the emergency stop button on the control panel and alerted officers.

    Heath authorities are investigating Craig’s death as an accident and declined to further comment pending toxicology results.
