A New York City man is dead after a bloody encounter with a schizophrenic teen that plunged a knife into his chest in front of the victim’s wife Thursday.
Nathaniel Rivers, a 35-year-old father of one, was stabbed to death by 19-year-old Franklin Mesa at around 1:15 p.m. just after he parked his car in Norwood.
“The best person in the world,” a neighbor of the victim said. “He would give you the shirt off his back. Whatever you needed he would help you with. He was that kind of a person.”
The suspect’s sister confirmed that he was schizophrenic and on medication since the age of 15. Residents of the neighborhood called him a “menace”, always attacking and punching passersby.
“I heard from the community now, that they have had some encounters with him,” one said. “Situations that were hostile, aggressive. The lady across the street she said that he tried prevent her from getting on the bus.”
