The death of a veteran NYPD officer is being investigated as a suicide after he was found dead in his Long Island home late Saturday.
The officer was off-duty at the time of his apparent suicide at around 3:30 p.m. He reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the West Bay Shore residence.
It was the 52-year-old cop’s wife who found the victim dead and called 911. The Suffolk County Police sent a homicide squad to the scene but confirmed they were dealing with a “non-criminal death.”
The department said that the decedent was an 18-year veteran of the force and worked for the NYPD Highway Patrol’s Collision Investigation Squad in the Queens area.
His identity was not made public pending family notification.
