A devastated Illinois mom found the bodies of her three small children at the Chicago suburb home of their father early Monday morning after he promised her he “would never hurt them.”
But when Debra Karels showed up at the residence to pick up the kids, identified as Cassidy, 3; Bryant, 5; and Gideon, 2, she only found their lifeless bodies in a bedroom.
The father, Jason Karels confessed to drowning his three children after spending the weekend with them. He was arrested after a high-speed chase and charged with triple murder.
Debra said that she last spoke to the three kids on Sunday night and they seemed “happy.”
“They were excited to chat,” she recalled. “They were not doing anything special, they just seemed excited that I was going to pick them up the next morning.”
“I am just in disbelief. I never thought he would do this to his kids. But now I know, if you have any inkling of doubt, don’t ignore it and stick to your guns.”
