Illinois dad charged after shaking, slamming weeks-old daughter to death

Authorities in Oak Lawn, Illinois, have arrested a father whose 8-week-old daughter died from severe head and brain trauma on June 2.

Edward Janiszewski is facing aggravated battery to a child pending further charges after police said that he shook and slammed his newborn daughter causing her death.

  • Doctors at Hope Children’s Hospital initially treated the infant for stomach pain and dehydration on May 27.

    But a couple of days later, the girl was brought back to the hospital, unresponsive, and it was determined she suffered brain trauma, likely as a result of being shaken.

    The baby died on June 2 at the hospital and her father was taken into custody after admitting to shaking her and slamming her head against a cushion early on May 30.
