Military veteran grandma kills infant, critically harms toddler while they spent Mother’s Day with her

A Broussard woman was taken into custody in connection with the death of her infant grandchild and the critical harm she inflicted to another on Mother’s Day.

Tammy Clause, 49, is facing second-degree murder and cruelty to juvenile charges after Broussard authorities conducted a welfare check on her

East Third Street home and made the horrific discoveries.

    “I called the police just for a welfare check. I never expected anything like this. Ever,” the distraught woman said adding that her surviving son suffered malnutrition and dehydration.

    The grandmother was reportedly a military veteran who served in Iraq and suffered mental illness due to the traumatic experience; her entire life was shattered and she lost full custody of her own two sons in 2009 after a divorce.
