Outstanding University of Wisconsin track star, 21, takes own life in ‘single desperate moment’: Family says

The family of a University of Wisconsin track star confirmed the grim news of her suicide this week in a heartbreaking statement.

Sarah Shulze, 21, took her own life on April 13. She was a junior and member of cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams at the university.

    While running at Wisconsin, Shulze won academic all-big Ten honors after she was granted a scholarship to Wisconsin and named Ventura County Athlete of the Year at her high school in California.

    “The Wisconsin Athletics community is heartbroken by the unexpected passing of Sarah Shulze. We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to Sarah’s family, friends, and Badger teammates during this extraordinarily difficult time,” the university said.
