  • The incident occurred outside a Dolton’s Food for Less store on Saturday. 23-year-old Romell Watson, the boy’s dad, was arrested on unlawful use of weapon charges.

Police said that although Watson legally owned the gun, he did not have a concealed carry permit. Investigators had to question the toddler with the help of a specialist to confirm Watson’s narrative.

“The child said he was the one who fired the gun. We are confident he fired the gun,” police said.
