A Jackson man is behind bars facing two counts of murder after his eight-month pregnant victim named him her killer before passing away.
Brianna Carter, 20, was shot multiple times in the street Sunday and rushed to a Mississippi hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.
But while she was at the hospital, Carter identified the shooter as 21-year-old Daniel Cornelius Jones. Police said that she cited domestic issues as a possible motive.
“Not only is loss of life always devastating but most especially if a mother herself is killed and in one of the most miraculous periods of our lives carrying a child,” Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said. “That hope, that’s a future gone.”
The coroner’s office said that the victim was nearly full-term when she was murdered. The incident is the latest in a string of domestic violence ordeals across Jacksonville.
“We are pleading with you to – please – let’s handle domestic situations, disagreements, disturbances another type of way,” Assistant Chief Joe Wade said. “Death is a final act.”
