An Ohio woman was shot and her 9-month-old daughter killed at the hands of her ex-boyfriend who then took his own life, Brooks Park Police said.
Alice Porter was shot dead by her father Martin Porter who had also shot her mother Sarah Smith-Carter before committing suicide.
The woman survived her injuries but is struggling to cope with the loss of her infant daughter whom she had tried to protect by filing several reports of harassment against her abusive dad.
“I didn’t really see this coming, but I had a feeling he would harm himself, of not Alice,” the woman said.
“There should be a way for people, not just women, to be able to be protected when they feel that their life is in danger.”
Smith-Carter said that the tragic incident occurred Saturday after Martin Porter broke into her home where three other children were present.
“I’m just glad they were under the bed and didn’t see him shoot me. That would’ve been more traumatizing for them.”
