Mom, 2 daughters found stabbed to death at Kentucky apartment after survivor called 911

A Walton, Kentucky mom and her two young daughters were stabbed to death inside their apartment while the woman’s boyfriend survived his injuries, Boone County authorities said.

Deputies responded to the call of Matthew Farrell, 36, at around 9 p.m. after he reported being stabbed to the torso, neck, and upper body.

“The caller’s advising that the female that stabbed him was inside the apartment. He said he was asleep and woke up being stabbed in the stomach.”

  • At the scene, the lifeless bodies of 31-year-old Monique Pena and her daughters, 12-year-old Nikki Romero-Pena and 3-year-old Katie Farrell-Pena were found.

    The older girl was a sixth-grader at Gray Middle School. There, counselors were made available to support students.

    “It’s incredibly tragic in any situation where there’s a loss of life, but when you have a 3-year-old and a 12-year-old who were a part of a gruesome death, that is something that you never forget,” Lt. Philip Ridgell said.
