The 15-year-old Oxford High School shooter was identified Wednesday as Ethan Crumbley just before he appeared in court facing serious charges that will likely grant him a life behind bars sentence.
Crumbley was sporting a face mask and glasses as he appeared for his first court hearing via video. He was wearing an anti-suicide vest and had his hands cuffed in front of him.
The teen was charged with 24 counts including terrorism and first-degree murder. He was denied bond and sent to a juvenile detention facility’s solitary cell.
During the proceedings, Oakland County Sheriff Lt. Tim Willis recounted details of a video Crumbley made the night before going on his bloody rampage that left four teenagers dead.
Prosecutor Marc Keast added that surveillance footage from the school showed Crumbley entering a bathroom with a backpack and exiting shortly later, brandishing the 9mm handgun.
“At that point, he methodically and deliberately walked down a hallway, aiming the firearm at students and firing. After children started running away from the defendant, he continued down the hallway again at a deliberate and methodical pace, pointing and aiming inside classrooms and at students who hadn’t had the opportunity to escape.”
Keast concluded: “What’s depicted on that video, honestly, judge, I don’t have the words to describe how horrific that was.”
