New York detectives believe that the 4-month-old boy who died at a Brooklyn home earlier this week had been the victim of starvation and abuse before joining his foster family.
Cairo Stevens had internal trauma well before he became unconscious and unresponsive at a Van Dykes Houses apartment Wednesday morning.
His foster mother had been caring for him for about a month when he died. She rushed him to Brookdale University Hospital after noticing his condition but he couldn’t be helped.
The baby appeared malnourished and had injuries that were inflicted before he was placed with his foster mother.
An autopsy is being conducted to determine whether the child’s death was the result of prior abuse.
