A New York City man died after falling 100 feet off the Manhattan Bridge where he was working Wednesday.
The painting contractor was a 37 years old employee with the NYC Department of Transportation. He was wearing safety equipment while fulfilling his tasks before the deadly plunge at around 2 p.m.
Another worker, 55, also fell from the same high but landed on a lower building and survived. Police said that the workers were “switching locations where the harness was attached, there was a strong wind, and they fell.”
“The man was down on the ground,” witness Jacqueline Hurd said. “It was awful. They were holding a sheet over him. When they placed the sheet over him, it turned bloody. It gave me the chills. God bless his family.”
She added: “You’ve gotta say a prayer for all the guys working up there.”
