Detroit news, Michigan news.

The family of former Detroit Congresswoman Barbara Rose Collins confirmed her death at the age of 82 after a long battle with Covid-19.

Collins’ son told a local news outlet that his late mother was fully vaccinated against the deadly bug but still needed to be hospitalized after developing complications.

“She lived her whole life in the same neighborhood, the same house she was born in, on the lower east side,’’ he said. “ That says a lot about a person.”

“You could get into a floor fight with her but she would then invite you to her house a few days later,” former Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. said of Collins.

“She always understood that it was business and never personal.”
