Illinois mom arrested after remains of hidden baby found buried in family home backyard

Nearly one year after she gave birth to a baby son, an Illinois mom was arrested on first-degree murder charges following the discovery of his remains.

Police said that 23-year-old Alvory C. Chavez Ramos had given birth at her Leyden Township family home in November 2020.

  • Chavez hid the baby from the rest of the family because she was afraid “they would be angry with her” and shortly after delivery, she killed the baby.

    The mom covered the newborn’s nose and mouth until he died, placed him in a plastic bag, and then buried him in a hole outside the home. The remains were found last May and the baby was identified as hers.

    A judge set Chavez’s bond at $95,000 after she waived her Miranda rights and confessed to the crime.
