Kentucky soldier kills pregnant wife; baby survives: ‘It was a tragedy’

Army officials confirmed the arrest of a Fort Campbell soldier on charges he murdered his pregnant wife late last month.

33-year-old Joseph Santiago had allegedly slaughtered wife Meghan Santiago at the Fort Campbell base where he had been stationed.

The woman was reportedly taken off life-support after doctors successfully managed to save her unborn baby.

  • “Meghan’s death is a tragedy,” Col. Brent Linderman said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. This tragic event has shaken our entire unit. We take all allegations of domestic violence seriously, and we will provide every resource to ensure a thorough investigation.”

    Santiago served as a signal systems specialist and was assigned to the Fifth Special Forces Group.

    His wife was 32 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, reports said. She died from brain injuries.
