Fort Bragg soldier to face court-martial for suspicious similar deaths of 2 adopted toddlers

A Fort Bragg soldier is facing court-martial in connection with the suspicious deaths of two toddlers he had adopted four years ago.

Anthony S. Rivera and his wife stand accused of the two murders of a 2 and a 3-year-olds they adopted in April 2017.

  • The first child died at the couple’s home on November 18, 2017, and the second on January 14, 2018. Both had “similar” spinal injuries and sustained blunt force trauma at Rivera’s residence.

    The soldier, who is assigned to D Company, 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, was arraigned in August.

    The case was handed over to the Army’s Criminal Investigation Unit in 2020 by the Harnett County prosecutors who decided not to prosecute.
