The Louisiana woman who was arrested Thursday after she threw two children off a bridge into a lake killing one was identified as Ureka Black by the Shreveport Police Department.
A 911 tipster told dispatchers that the body of a child was floating in Cross Lake at around 10:53 a.m.
Marine Patrol officers were dispatched to the scene where they recovered a lifeless child’s body from waters and located another child in a life-threatening condition.
Authorities deployed search and rescue crews for a couple of hours in a bid to locate a third kid who may be in danger before finding them “safe in another location.”
Detectives said that the woman was in a Dodge Caravan when she crossed the Cross Lake Bridge.
“We believe she threw two children over the edge and into the water and then fled the scene,” police said.
“We don’t believe we’re dealing with trafficking. We believe the offender has a close enough relationship to establish that this was not a random act of violence.”
Police tracked down the vehicle and arrested the woman later confirmed to be the children’s mom after issuing an alert to find her.
