Memphis news, Tennessee news.

An elderly mother was killed and fourteen others sustained injuries when gunfire erupted at a Kroger store Thursday afternoon sending shoppers running for their lives.

It was a “horrific” incident inside a Collierville’s Kroger at around 1:30 p.m. when 29-year-old UK Thang, a third-party vendor for the grocer, opened fire at people before taking his own life.

“We found people hiding in freezers, in locked offices. They were what they had been trained to do: run, hide, fight,” Police Chief Dale Lane said.

Employee Brignetta Dickerson, 33, recalled seeing colleagues getting shots as she ran with others toward the back of the store.

“I told them all, ‘Come on, let’s hurry,” she said. “Right behind us is our shooter and he kept on shooting, shooting, shooting.”

“He shot one of my coworkers in the head and he shot another customer in the stomach.”
