North Carolina man charged with 2nd degree murder after toddler found unresponsive on bed

Authorities in Concord, North Carolina have charged a 26-year-old man with second-degree murder in connection to the death of a 3-year-old toddler last weekend.

Local news outlets reported that at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, first responders rushed to a Central Drive home where 3-year-old Evy Ann Cook layed unresponsive on a bed.

  • She was declared dead at the scene. Her mom’s boyfriend, identified as Alex Blount, was arrested in relation to the death.

    “I will say this, these types of investigations take an emotional toll on those responsible for getting to the bottom of what happened,” Concord Police Chief Gary Gacek said.

    “CPD detectives did a great job under very difficult circumstances and were confident the person responsible will be brought to justice.”
