California boy dead, 19-year-old female driver injured when freight train crashed into car

Two California teens have been brutally struck by a freight train that collided right into their vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The collision claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and seriously injured a 19-year-old female driver when, at around 1 p.m., they were struck by the freight train.

  • The crash occurred as the victims’ vehicle headed west on East Cypress in Oakley near Iron House Elementary & Delta Vista Middle School.

    The deceased boy was identified as Joshua Schaefer. The collision also damaged two vehicles though it was not immediately clear whether they were also struck or just hit by debris.

    It is the second crash that involved a train in Contra Costa County this week.
