The New York Police Department announced Friday the passing of its 60th member from Covid complications amid a hesitancy regarding vaccination among personnel.
Officer Sony Clerge is the 60th cop to die from the viral illness in the department but the third to perish in just a few days, according to Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.
“Fluent in French and Creole, Sony worked his entire 19-year career assigned to Transit Borough Manhattan Task Force, where his efforts helped make our city’s subway system a safer, more hospitable place for millions of riders,” Shea said.
The disease has claimed variant officials' lives of including investigators, auxiliary volunteers, school and traffic safety.
“Members who do not have official proof of Covid-19 vaccination on file with the Medical Division must wear a face covering at all times while working, whether indoors or outside, including while driving in Department vehicles.”
