A Kenner, Louisiana mom was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of her newborn daughter after autopsy results revealed the baby died of fentanyl consumption.
28-year-old Lana Cristina, who was arrested in 2013 for providing a fatal heroin dose to a friend, was charged this time with second-degree murder.
Police said that Cristina’s daughter was only 4 days old when she breastfed her after using fentanyl
The incident occurred on June 10 at a hotel in the 1100 block of Manhattan Boulevard in Harvey.
The mom called 911 at around 3:40 a.m. to report that her infant stopped breathing. The baby was pronounced dead at a hospital and autopsy results confirmed acute fentanyl toxicity as a cause of death.
Cristina admitted to taking the narcotics before breastfeeding her daughter. She is being held on a $400,000 bond.
