Prominent cybersecurity expert’s son kills her outside Maryland home

A prominent cybersecurity expert has been stabbed to death last week and authorities suspect her 23-year-old son’s involvement after noticing fresh cuts in his hands.

The body of Juanita Koilpillai was discovered outside her Ann Arundel County, Maryland home on Sunday.

Police said that she sustained several sharp force wounds. Her car was found in Virginia where she owns another home.

  • The victim’s son, Andrew Weylin Beavers gave investigators an unconvincing explanation regarding knife wounds in his hands that appeared fresh.

    The weapon that was used in the crime was found to have DNA of both Koilpillai and Beavers on it.

    Beavers was tracked down to Leesburg, Virginia, and arrested. He is awaiting extradition to Maryland to stand trial.

    The deceased expert was a Sri Lanka, India native and had founded several cybersecurity firms including Resilient focusing on preventing hackers’ threats.
