A Katy man has been busted after a bloody hostage situation that left his wife dead and two of his stepchildren with severe gunshot wounds Friday night.
Lawrence Reed, 53, opened fire at his wife Valerie Junius and her two daughters in front of two other children, aged 12 and 8.
The incident occurred at 8:45 p.m. at the 2700 block of Roaring Oaks Lane. Neighbor Kandis Jackson said that she never expected such a tragedy would hit the family.
“The kids came running outside when I heard the gunshots the first time and I told my friend I would call her back,” she said.
“That’s when they started running outside and saying, ‘He shot my mom. He shot her.’ I called 911 and I heard multiple, more shots go off.”
Harris County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Edison Toquica said that the incident appears to be “family violence.”
“Our hostage negotiators did an awesome job in talking to the suspect for about 25, 30 minutes. They talked him out of the house and he is in custody at this time.”
