Young Alabama man who thought Covid was hoax dies after 2-month long battle with virus

The mourning mom of an Alabama man who died from Covid said that he considered the pandemic “ridiculous” and thought the entire illness was fake.

Curt Carpenter, 28, battled the coronavirus for two months in the hospital before being put on a ventilator. He died on May 2.

“Curt thought Covid was a hoax and did not take it seriously until he could not breathe without the oxygen,” she said.

“The same day he was put on the ventilator, he told us, ‘This is not a hoax, this is real.’”

  • The mother, who still calls Curt her beautiful baby boy, loved socializing and video games. She said that he knew “no strangers.”

    “It took watching my son die and me suffering the effects of Covid for us to realize we need the vaccine.”

    “We did not get vaccinated when we had the opportunity and regret that much now.”

    She concluded: “If Curt was here today, he would make it his mission to encourage everyone to get vaccinated.”
