Illinois authorities are looking for an escapee who hopped out of a van transporting him to the jail Tuesday afternoon.
Hugo R. Avila, 21, was facing traffic offenses and in the custody of Elgin Police when he broke away from the transport truck in Randall Road and Route 64 in St. Charles, Illinois.

Officers said that Avila managed to get rid of the handcuffs and left the van at a traffic stop. A search of local businesses went unsuccessful.
Avila stands 5-foot-8 and weighs about 125 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
Police are asking anyone with information about Avila to immediately call them and avoid approaching or contacting him.
