Georgia firefighters find floating toddler in river while crews filmed water safety ad

While filming a documentary about water safety Thursday, Georgia Fire Department officials made a grim discovery of a toddler’s body floating in the river.

Detrich Reid said that while the crew was filming the public announcement along the Chattahoochee River at Paces Mill Park, they spotted a deceased boy floating nearby.

“Cobb County Fire, they came out here to do a public service announcement just to teach about water safety and as they got out here, they noticed there was a toddler or a child of some sort that was floating down the river,” Officer Shenise Barner explained.

  • It appeared the boy’s remains were there for days before the discovery but there were no matching missing child’s reports were found in the county.

    Sources added that the child was one or two years old. It remains unclear if he had been a murder or an accident victim.

    “We don’t know where the child possibly entered the river. The river spans several different counties, several cities. So we’re not exactly sure and we’re going to treat it as a crime scene.”
