A California man accused of murdering his abused wife has admitted to the first-degree murder charges he faces in connection with her 2019 death.
33-year-old Heather Gumina Waters vanished without a trace on July 16, 2019, one day after she returned home from hospital suffering a broken collarbone.
The mom-of-three told her mother that her husband Anthony Gumina had strangled her multiple times until she passed out.
On Wednesday, Gumina admitted that fearing to be prosecuted over his wife’s severe injuries that sent her to the hospital, he “slammed her down onto the floor” killing her.
Afterward, the killer “admitted he then put a rope around her neck to help move her out of the house,” prosecutors said, and “in true abuser fashion, Gumina blamed Heather for hurting his pride and honor.”
“Right after the murder, he called the victim’s mother proclaiming that Heather took off and was missing, executing his plot to attempt to cover up his crime.”
The remains of Heather were discovered two months later, buried in several feet in the dirt near the couple’s property.
Prosecutors said that Heather was still wearing her hospital ID bracelet, smock, and sling. She also had the rope around her neck and was wrapped in a carpet.
