Tampa news, Florida news.

Tampa authorities are still looking for the body of a hero resident who was swept away while trying to rescue a doomed father and his small child from drowning Friday.

Kristoff Murray, 27, is now dubbed the “Apollo Beach Hero” after he lost his life amid the unsuccessful yet brave attempt.

“Couldn’t be more grateful for his heroic actions,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said.

  • “Unfortunately, the current was just that strong that he wasn’t able to attempt any rescue efforts either as good and as pure as his intentions were.”

The identities of the dad and the toddler were not immediately released.

“When you have areas that are clearly marked ‘no swimming’ it’s for a reason,” Chronister added.

“I’m asking every parent out there don’t put an infant child near any type of moving or open body of water without having a life jacket on.”
