Gang-members hunt down 14-year-old girl, shot her in the head after learning she was in no gang

A 14-year-old Illinois girl is left fighting for life after a group of underage gangsters chased her and shot her in the head Wednesday.

Authorities said that the teen was walking her dog in the 1700 block of West 48th Street in Back of the Yards when three gang members approached her.

The assailants asked the victim if she was in a gang to which she replied no before they started the attack.

  • Ald. Ray Lopez said that the three suspects were 15 and younger and had been targeting youths in the area, recruiting for their new gang.

    “This elevation of gang life has to come to an end. It’s not cute. It only comes to one outcome, what we saw last night,” Lopez said.

    Community activist Andrew Holmes said that late Wednesday, the victim underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition.

    “These streets belong to the children, the parks belong to the children. Give our city back to our youth.”
