A 69-year-old Raleigh man died from multiple injuries in a local cemetery last week and police arrested three teenagers in connection with his killing.
The attack occurred Friday at around 10:05 p.m. at the entrance of Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Three teenagers including a girl were seen fleeing the bloody scene before leaving in separated trucks, a North Carolina State lab employee who witnessed the incident said.
Several bloody items were recovered near the area including black latex gloves, a pair of pants, and two shoes.
The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Maria Elizabeth Pena-Echeverria, Johnathan Daniel Villanueva-Galer, 19, and a 16-year-old boy whose identity was not publicly released.
They were separately apprehended by Raleigh homicide detectives following the death of James Lacy Taylor.
According to authorities, the incident “was not a random act” and it remains unclear if it was gang-related.
An autopsy is being performed to confirm the victim’s cause of death.
