Goldsboro news, North Carolina news.

The suspect accused of murder and dismemberment of a woman’s body found last week in a Goldsboro driveway had a fervent attorney defending him in court Tuesday.

“This is the United States of America, and a man is innocent until proven guilty,” the lawyer speaking on behalf of Willie Lee Langston told the presiding judge.

He added that the suspected murderer’s family spent all their money to appoint him for the bond hearing and that he not a “flight risk” despite facing horrendous charges.

Authorities were called last Monday to a Bright Street residence in downtown Goldsboro where the mutilated body was found.

But the lawyer insisted Langston should be freed on bail and provided with a court-appointed lawyer for the case. He added that the suspect is willing to be monitored through an ankle device.

The prosecutor cited the gravity of the charges against Langston that are punishable by capital sentences.

At the end of the hearing, the judge denied Langston bail and ordered him detained at the Wayne County Detention Center until his trial. His next court appearance is set for June 17.
