Charlotte news, North Carolina news.

Days after her daughter’s arrest on murder charges, a North Carolina grandma was apprehended for helping hide a slain toddler’s remains.

Tammy Taylor Moffett, 53, was arrested Thursday on charges of concealing a death and accessory after murder.

Her 31-year-old daughter Malikah Diane Bennett was arrested on May 21 after the remains of her missing 4-year-old Majelic Young, were found buried in the backyard of her Charlotte home.

“I’ve worked homicide for most of the last 10 years,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Lt. Bryan Crum said.

  • “I can tell you that this case is deeply disturbing. It’s disturbing to everyone who’s worked it.”

“Many of us are parents, and it’s very difficult to understand how someone could do this to their child – kill their child and bury them and move on with their life as if nothing happened.”

Moffett drew detectives’ suspicions after she vanished during the investigation with neighbors insisting she’d often visit her daughter and three grandchildren.

“It’s shocking on so many levels,” a neighbor said. “You’d think trouble to that degree, you know, the family would be involved. Didn’t see Grandma.”
