FDA investigation reveals J&J jabs manufacturing plant didn’t enforce hygiene among staff leading to contamination

3years ago

Baltimore news, Maryland news.

Workers at the Baltimore plant manufacturing Johnson & Johnson’s jabs failed to shower and change clothes before entering the processing area.

It was revealed in an FDA report that came after months of investigation into what may have caused 15 million doses of the J&J to be botched.

Personnel at Emergent BioSolutions did not respect the sanitation protocol with, in one instance, an associate working on jabs without showing shower documentation for 19 years.

  • “The firm has failed to adequately train personnel involved in manufacturing operations, quality control sampling, weigh and disperse, and engineering operations to prevent cross-contamination of bulk drug substances created for the client.”

During a Wednesday hearing on the matter, Rep. James Clyburn said that Emergent BioSolutions was awarded $650 million to manufacture the jabs.

“But nearly a years later, Emergent has destroyed millions of vaccines due to contaminations, and millions more are being held back for testing to ensure they can be used.”

“All due to Emergent’s failure to properly maintain its facilities, adequately train its staff and ensure the proper protocols were followed.”
