South Carolina authorities confirmed Monday that Vinson Filyaw, the infamous rapist who pleaded guilty to his crimes in 2007, was found dead in his cell.
The 51-year-old was serving a 421-year sentence at the McCormick Correctional Institution. He was found unresponsive Monday and no foul play is suspected in his death.
Filyaw admitted that he had stalked a 14-year-old girl in 2006 as she left a school bus and kidnapped her pretending to be a police officer.
He kept her hostage in an underground bunker where he tortured her. His crime was documented in the 2018 lifetime show “The Girl in the Bunker.”
Prosecutor Barney Giese described Filyaw as “a bad guy who got 421 years and deserved every day of it.”
