Social media is overflown with memes and jokes following the announcement of Bill and Melinda Gates’ divorce after 27 years of marriage.
The Microsoft co-founder and Former CEO announced that he and his wife had raised their three children and helped people in need across the world but that they’ve decided to quit.
They had met in Microsoft and married in 1994 and grew to become the fourth richest couple in the world with a net worth of $130 billion that will now be equally divided.
But social media users did not feel sad for the tech mogul’s separation and went to mock their unexpected decision.
“Are Bill and Melinda Gates really going through a… you know...*windows 98 shutdown sound* divorce?” one tweeted.
“Wishing bill gates a happy May 4th. Happy Star Wars day. May divorce be with you,” another added.
A third imagined Gates logging into his marriage this morning: “Your marriage ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle, and now it needs to shut down.”
