American citizens are urged to avoid traveling to India or staying there amid a catastrophic surge in Covid-19 cases worsened by the apparition of a new double-mutant variant of the deadly virus.
The US Embassy in India released a level-4 advisory Wednesday, asking Americans to leave the country through daily direct flights to the US or to Paris and Frankfurt where they would be brought back home.
“Access to medical care is severely limited due to Covid-19 cases,” The US State Department said on Twitter. “US citizens wishing to depart should use commercial options now.”
India is struggling to provide medical care to scores of patients hit with a new fatal Covid variant described as “far more infectious and probably far more deadly.”
