An elderly Harlem man arriving home with his nurse Friday afternoon made a gruesome discovery of a dead body stuffed inside a bag at his apartment.
Police were called to the Nicholas Avenue Apartment complex at around 3 p.m. when the nurse noticed a strong odor emanating from the residence that seemed like a decaying body.
“The body was in a bag in the living room. It’s in an advanced state of decay. We can’t even tell if it’s a man or a woman,” a police source said.
Victor Nigel who is the building supervisor said that the foul odor had become unbearable Friday.
“It’s been funky for about a week now. A couple of tenants were complaining,” he said. “The body was in there with him. He lives there by himself. I have no idea who that deceased person is.”
Authorities said that the tenant of the apartment is in his 70s and infirm. The health worker that accompanied him was his home care provider.
