Authorities in Georgia are probing whether the death of a 58-year-old woman at Tullulah Gorge State Park Thursday was an intentional fall.
Nancy Moore Smith plunged 250 feet to the bottom of the gorge from an overlook and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The first responders located the deceased female at the bottom of the gorge and Habersham and Rubun County personnel rappelled into the gorge and used long lines to recover the victim,” the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said.
But interviews of eyewitnesses insisted that Smith crossed over the railing and was talking to a park ranger before jumping.
“Witness statements are parts of the ongoing investigation,” DNR Spokesman Mark McKinnon said. “If that is true, the investigation will show it.”
