Boulder authorities have decided to move the alleged King Soopers’ mass shooter to another jail over “safety concerns.”
Ahmad Alissa, 21, is accused of shooting 10 people dead at the Boulder supermarket last Monday. He was initially transferred to a local hospital to receive treatment for a leg injury.
Since then, Alissa was being held at the Boulder County Jail until Thursday, when officials said they would remove him for his safety.
“The suspect remains under our custody, however, he is being housed at another correctional facility outside of Boulder County due to safety concerns and threats that our jail staff became aware of,” Sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Haverfield said.
Alissa faces 10 counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder in connection with Boulder’s mass shooting.
His attorney asked the Colorado District Judge Thomas Mulvahill for a delay to evaluate his mental health competency.
“We cannot begin to assess the nature and depth of Mr. Alissa’s mental illness until we have the discovery from the government,” Att. Kathrin Herold said.
