Boulder shooter appears in court as city mourns King Soopers’ rampage victims

The 21-year-old man accused of perpetrating the Boulder mass shooting on Monday has appeared before a judge today.

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa was charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder in connection with the King Soopers supermarket’s rampage.

He spoke briefly to tell Judge Thomas Francis Mulvahill that he heard the charges he faces as well as the rights he owes as a defendant.

  • Alissa entered the court in a wheelchair after sustaining a wound injury. Thursday’s court proceedings were closed to the public.

    The night before, mourners gathered to pay tribute to the ten victims who were shot and killed at the store.

    Alissa’s public defender asked the court for a continuance of 60 to 90 days in order to obtain his mental health evaluation.

    Prosecutors told the judge that they are working to file more charges in the case.
