A massive fire broke out early Tuesday at a Spring Valley, New York nursing home causing the facility’s roof to collapse.
Firefighters are still battling flames that consumed the building where around 200 patients resided at the Evergreen nursing home in upstate New York.
Sources at the scene mentioned “multiple people” dead and others trapped when the roof crushed following an explosion.
The blaze has been raging for two hours before the second floor came down. Witnesses described a “completely destroyed” building.
The New York Fire Department sought help from northern New Jersey colleagues to help control the fire. A helicopter was also deployed.
Volunteers managed to escort surviving seniors onto buses and take them to the nearby Golden Acre Rest Home.
